BGSU Clarinet Studio

05.16.08 | Meet Spencer Prewitt
Spencer Prewitt is the Clarinet Teaching Assistant at BGSU and is about to complete his masters degree. Originally from Kansas City, he received his BM from the University of Oklahoma studying with David Etheridge.

Spencer is the Clarinet Mentor for the Detroit Civic Orchestra in addition to his classes at BGSU. He just won the MTNA Collegiate Young Artist Solo Competition held in Ohio last month. He will advance to the regional level of competition early next year. As a member of the PVC Trio (Sarah Emerson, soprano, Spencer Prewitt, clarinet, and Laure Vermeulin, piano) he won the BGSU Chamber Music Competition performing Schubert's Shepherd on a Rock and Ariel by Ned Rorem. In May, this same group came in second place in the Chamber Music New England Competition. He also plays with the Lima Symphony (recently performing Eb clarinet on Daphnis), the Perrysburg Symphony, the Warren Symphony, and the Newark Delaware Symphony. This past summer he performed with the Ohio Light Opera.

What does he do for fun? Practice!
Oh, and he makes the best ginger snap cookies you have ever had!

As Spencer graduates this year, the time has come for a new Clarinet Teaching Assistant at BGSU starting in August 2009. This important assistantship is for a masters clarinet performance marjo and it involves ten hours of teaching undergraduate clarinet majors. It's an awesome opportunity with nearly unlimited study, teaching, and performance opportunitites both on and off campus.

I welcome your questions and would be happy to help you find out more.
